Finally…Our Own Farm

Finally after years of working on or setting up other peoples' operations: tree nurseries, orchards, ground crops, grazing, dairies ect... Tanya and I are starting our very own market garden operation. I just signed the lease last night. We are now the proud lessees of 1 acre of sandy loam and 1/4 of apricot trees. The land is gentle sloping to the east over looking lake Skaha in Kaleden BC. The sight is moderate by the lake, not too hot not too cold, with plenty of light reflected off the lake. It was formerly an orchard that grew some much sought after peaches. We will be leveraging this micro climate to grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, zucchini and of course apricots.

I know its not much to look at right now, but just you wait and see. Over the course of the next 8 months this site will totally transform and be producing some of the tastiest tomatoes in the known world! The sight is not without its challenges and as we develop it I will share our trials and tribulation right here. It will also be the example we use in lectures and course work for our online courses and workshops.In the online courses we will show you how we applied and are applying our permaculture design process to achieve our desired goals and outcomes. How it can be done in a way that improves and enriches the soil and environment as we go. And of course how we are making it work financially. Our next free intro course starts on March 14th. We call it the Permaculture Kickstart and its a great way get a sample of what permaculture is and how we approach things. The free Kickstart course runs from Monday to Sunday and consists of 4 short videos you watch on your schedule 4 short assignments and a bit of online discussion in a private facebook group. I look forward to meeting you then.
